Rendel has been appointed with ASPEC Pty on the Shiploader and Berth Replacement (SABR) Project to carry out an independent structural review of the existing Berth 2 caissons and proposed design of the new Berth 2A at the Hay Point Coal Terminal in Queensland, Australia.
The terminal is owned and operated by BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA), a 50-50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development Pty Ltd. BMA is Australia’s largest metallurgical coal miner and exporter.
The SABR project scope includes the disassembly of the existing Berth 2 superstructures (including topsides, wharf deck structure, link structure and associated conveyor structures) and Shiploader SL2, and the fabrication and installation of new Berth 2A and Shiploader SL2A structures. The existing caisson structures will be retained and reinforced, with the new berth topside structures and wharf deck raised to provide an acceptable cyclone immunity level.
Rendel are providing independent technical review on the new berth structures on the following areas:
- Existing caissons
- Steel jackets
- Jacket foundations
- Wave actions to the jackets and caissons
