North Field expansion project – marine works, Qatar
Rendel’s ports and maritime team has been appointed by an international contractor to carry out pre-tender engineering services for an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) for marine works for the Ras Laffan Industrial City, as part of the North Field Expansion (NFE), about 90 kilometres north of Doha City.
The expansion project will form part of Qatar Petroleum’s goal of growing the country’s LNG production from 77 million tonnes per annum to 110 million tonnes per annum by 2024.
The project involves the detailed engineering, procurement, installation and construction of three LNG shipping berths, which consist of connection causeways; a loading platform; four breasting dolphins; eight mooring dolphins; interconnecting walkways; a flare platform and trestle to flare; fenders, QRMH and other jetty furniture; and the installation of loading arms and flares for three berths.
Rendel role will be to deliver:

- Preliminary design
- Technical support for proposed methodology/sequence
- Technical specifications
- Detailed Bill of Quantities
