Moldova Road Sector Programme – Supervision of Construction

Rendel has been appointed by the State Road Administration of the Republic of Moldova to provide construction supervision of civil works on the R1 Bahmut bypass, funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development from the EU NIF Contribution (the construction cost of the project) and by the European Investment Bank (the consulting services for construction supervision). The project is part of a road rehabilitation programme in Moldova to rehabilitate part of its national road network.

The R1 Bahmut bypass from km 68+250 to km 74+177 of the R1 Chisinau-Sculeni Road will be a 6km realigned section of the R1 road . A new section of the R1 road will run south of and parallel to the existing road, close to the existing railway. The major works for the new road will include a pedestrian underpass, several culverts, road safety features and three road junctions.

Rendel’s task is to undertake the role of the “Engineer” as defined in the FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Construction, MDB Harmonized edition, June 2010. Rendel’s services include:

  • Preconstruction activities
  • Administration of the civil work contract
  • Approval of contractor’s materials, construction techniques and programmes of work
  • Direct supervision of the works and monitoring of the progress
  • Supervision of the implementation of the Environmental Management Plan (EMP)
  • Supervision of the implementation of road safety recommendations
  • Preparation of mandatory reporting

Rendel’s supervision team of 19 staff will include key experts, technical support staff and short-term experts.

The planned time for completion is 52 months including 12 months for Defects Notification Period.

Rendel previously carried out a technical audit of Moldovan roads, financed by the European Investment Bank as part of an independent team to assess the compliance of road works with technical specifications and standards for the entire Road Sector Programme.
