Last week the final deck segment of the Colne Valley Viaduct was successfully installed, a significant milestone in the delivery of HS2.
Spanning 3.4 km, the viaduct is now the longest railway bridge in the UK and a critical connection in the HS2 network, spanning a diverse area of countryside across the Colne Valley. It will carry high speed trains at speeds of up to 320km/h (200 mph).
Align D, comprising Jacobs, Rendel Limited and Ingérop, Align and Grimshaw led the design of the viaduct, from tender design through to scheme and detailed design, with the construction led by the Align JV – Bouygues Construction, Sir Robert McAlpine and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd and their subcontractors VSL International Ltd., Kilnbridge and KVJV amongst others. With the works starting on the deck in May 2022, the design and delivery of Colne Valley Viaduct is a feat of engineering, design, construction and collaboration.
A fantastic achievement – congratulations to the whole team!
